Field Training Officer (FTO) Unit

The field training process used by the Rantoul Police Department is a comprehensive 16-week program where the probationary officer is assigned to the Patrol Division under the direction of field training officers and a field training sergeant. The process is based on a nationally accepted program which is designed to assist new officers in making the transition from an academy environment to a practical policing application.

Field training officers have been selected for their professionalism and ability to teach their acquired knowledge. The goal for the field training program is to provide the tools and decision-making abilities to the probationary officers, so they are able to perform in stressful environments and best serve the community.
